Camp Countdown

The countdown to camp is now on! We're getting groups and activities organised and even planning what we're going to eat on the first night!
Today we started our Camp Unit. We are going to learn about the Abel Tasman National Park; its birdlife, native trees, early Maori settlement and even learn some first aid.
The first task we are going to tackle is learning about native birds found in the area.
Below is a selection of native birds found in the National Park

  • Bell birds
  • Fan tail
  • Kaka
  • South Island Robin
  • Shinning Cockoo (pÄ«pÄ«wharauroa)
  • Morepork
  • Wood pigeon
  • Tui
  • Weka
  • Little blue peguin
  • Pukeko
Using the following websites and books available work your way through the task sheet to collect information about your chosen bird. Remember to look for good pictures because you will need to draw a detailed picture of your bird.
